North Queensferry is a small village situated on the Forth Estuary between the two Forth Bridges. It has an interesting history because of the importance of the passage between the north and south shores, before the bridges were built.
Shoreland Studio looks out over West Sands, a tidal, muddy bay in the centre of the village. When the tide is in, the reflections on the water from the Forth Rail bridge,a westerly sunset, flocks of seabirds or a full moon can be magnificent. When the tide is out the mud flats support a variety of feeding wading birds including curlews, oystercatchers, turnstones, redshank and dunlin with Heron often seen feeding on the waters edge and Peregrine Falcons, Sparrowhawks and kestrels flying overhead. Eider and shelduck are frequently on the water with the occasional sighting of mergansers, divers, and cormorants.
It is very pleasant to sit in the garden with a drink and listen to the evocative calls of the birds as the sun sets over the river!
