Birdwatching in North Queensferry
Many woodland birds visit the Studio garden and a range of waders and other birds can be seen on the mudflats at the end of the garden when the tide is out, or upon the water.

The garden is visited by goldfinches, blackcaps, treecreepers, bullfinches, goldcrests, linnets, warblers and siskins to name but a few as well as the more common varieties of garden birds including blue, great, coal and longtailed tits. Peregrine falcons are regularly seen as they hunt the pigeons roosting on the Forth Bridge and kestrals and sparrowhawks have been seen in the garden.

On the mud flats a variety of waders can regularly be spotted including curlews, oystercatchers, turnstones, redshank and dunlin with rare species also seen. When the tide is in, eider, shelduck and other ducks are on the water, with the fluffy eider chicks in spring, and occasionally mergansers, divers, cormorants are seen diving for fish.

It is very pleasant to sit in the garden with a glass of wine and listen to the evocative calls of the birds as the sun sets over the river!
Shoreland Studio garden has many native trees and plants to attract as much wildlife as possible.  This is a work in progress, so dont expect the garden to be too neat and tidy!  it is however, very pretty especially in May June and July when the honesuckle is in flower and there are foxgloves everywhere.

A small wildlife pond is home to many frogs and, after dark, foxes, hedgehogs and bats have been seen.  There are deer in the village, usually to be found in the woods, but they have also been seen on the beach in front of the studio!
The Fife Coastal Path and the Carlingnose Reserve is a two-minute walk from the studio. The reserve is an SSSI on account of its herb-rich calcareous grassland, a scarce and declining habitat in Fife, supporting some rare plant species. There are many other bird species to be found here in the woodland and on the water, all the year round.
